Increase or decrease in the earth's temperature is a very natural phenomenon. But the temperature is increasing very steadily during last few decades and which is not a natural process. Green house effect is a major reason behind it. Large amount of emitted carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are responsible for green house effect and because of which percentage of absorption of solar energy is increased and finally resulted in increase in earth's temperature and change in the climate.
What are the effects of climate change?
The major effects of climate change are seen and studied on the following heads:
- Increase of forest fire
- Melting of polar caps
- Increase in sea level
The solutions available for this problem are as follows:
- Use of CFL lights
- Use of non conventional energy resources
- Eco housing
- Avoid the maximum use of natural resources
- Use the automobiles which are consuming less fuel
- Use of public transport
- Water harvesting
- Use of bio fuels
- Try to reuse and recycle the non degradable material
- Grow native plants. Avoid exotic ones
- Less use of plastic
- Public awareness for this subject
Many of the NGO's working for the said problem. One of them is Centre for Social Markets (CSM). I mentioned the web link, please go through it and decide what we can do.
Act today to preserve our tomorrow.............

Global warming is affecting all the continents badly..Surprisingly, according to the reports & references, India is less responsible for global warming than the western countries and is more aware than the others and taking all the possible actions to prevent it.
Along with the mentioned things that will help prevent this heating up of earth, composting is also an addition to the list. In todays growing population, we are finding scarcity of the land for residential purpose and municipal corporation has to use the available land for the dumping of the waste which is bad scenario.Hence composting of household kitchen waste is also a very good option which will help to reduce the refuse and help avoiding the pollution. As the dumping of these wastes openely causes the emmittion of gases which also include CO2 & ultimately supports increasing the temperature of the surroundings. Hence household composting is also to be takn seriously.
As per Reliance petroleums estimates the cost of petrol by 2010 is going to be 3$/ barrel in which case it would imperative to start using electric scooters, car pools, bicycles or even good old no 11, horses and bullock carts for not only environmental but for pure economic reasons. Better grease up ur old cycles before its too late
With full respect to the Mr. Vikram's comment I would like to add up the information. In some environment hot spot areas use of horses, bullock carts is already started. Use of these vehicles is a major step in the ecotourism also. In restricted areas, we can restrict the use of automobiles.
I completely agree with what Sampada & Mr. Vikram Ketkar recommend for the public transport. In city like thane, large horse carts are used for touring purpose since decades. If municipal corporation takes it seriously, it can be shifted for the public transport as well.
This is great info to know.
